Bel Sprinter wins trial

Smart galloper Bel Sprinter topped the time sheets for the 800-metre trials at Cranbournewith his effort in the fifth heat of the morning.

The dual Stakes winner ran the 800 metres in 47.77 second to post a 1-1/4-length win over Spatha.

Black Caviar, meantime, would return to business as usual as long as she came through her current spell all right, according to her owners, with the great mare likely to be set for an autumn campaign.

Last night, at a reception held on the 46th floor of a Collins Street tower, the Minister for Racing, Denis Napthine, paid tribute to the contribution Black Caviar had made to the sport and to the economy of the racing industry. The mare wasn’t in attendance but plenty of those who have been part of her epic journey over the past six years were.

Star 3YOs All Too Hard and Snitzerland trial brilliantly

Star colt All Too Hard and Golden Slipper runner-up Snitzerland appear set for a serious spring campaigns after producing eye-catching performances at the Rosehill barrier trials on Friday.

All Too Hard, the half-brother to Australian racing’s best galloper Black Caviar, finished a half neck behind Snitzerland in their first public hit-out as three-year-olds. The Gerald Ryan-trained filly stopped the clock in a slick 53.51 seconds for the 900 metres.

The new addition to Ryan’s stable, Villa Splendido was a long neck away in third.

Snitzerland’s stablemate Cavalry Rose took up the early running in the heat with the former stalking the speed. All To Hard was given plenty of time to find his feet in the early stages of the trial, settling last in the six horse field.

All Too Hard steps it up on Friday

All Too Hard, the highly touted half-brother to Australian superstar Black Caviar, will make his first public three-year-old appearance in a Rosehill barrier trial on Friday.

The Hawkes Racing-trained colt will step out in a top class 900-metre heat that includes Golden Slipperplacegetter Snitzerland and the Gerald Ryan-trained galloper’s stablemates Cavalry Rose, Villa Splendido and Assassinate.

Hawkes Racing co-trainer Michael Hawkes said All Too Hard has “grown up and matured” ahead of his upcoming preparation. Rodney Quinn will ride the son ofCasino Prince in the trial.
