Stewards continue investigation following positive swab

Racing Victoria (RV) Stewards today received a report from Racing Analytical Services Limited (RASL) confirming a positive swab has been returned by the Darren Weir-trained Doing Our Best.

The report pertains to a post-race urine sample taken from Doing Our Best following its win in the Porter Plant Maiden Plate (1200m) at Ballarat on 16 February 2013.

RASL reported that the sample contained Frusemide (a diuretic) which is a prohibited substance in accordance with the Australian Rules of Racing.

Stewards initially informed Mr Weir of the irregularity on 9 April 2013. They today advised Mr Weir of RASL’s confirmatory findings and that Stewards are continuing their investigation.

Jockey Nikita McLean suspended for five months after pleading guilty to charge

Racing Victoria (RV) Stewards today concluded an inquiry, which was opened and adjourned at the Hamilton race meeting on 14 April 2013, regarding an alleged incident involving licensed jockey Nikita McLean and apprentice rider Jackie Beriman. Read the rest of this entry »

Bel Esprit Steward’s reports for April 2012

Werribee Racing Club

Date: Thursday April 19 2012

Race 1 – WYNDHAM WEEKLY MAIDEN PLATE – 1000 metres:  L’esprit was slightly fractious in the barriers resulting in its rider N Callow being injured.  As the doctor deemed N Callow unfit to ride, L’espirt was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 12.16pm.  All monies invested on L’esprit to be refunded.

Race 4 – KING COBRA SIGNS MAIDEN PLATE – 1600 metres:  World Series was slow to begin.

Passing the 1500m Glenthorn Avenue was taken in off its course and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Gorilla’s Mist (D Oliver) which was shifting in .  D Oliver was reprimanded and notified to exercise more care in future.

Glenthorn Avenue travelled wide from the 600m onwards.

C Newitt (Glenthorn Avenue) was severely reprimanded for using his whip six times forehand prior to the 100m.

Race 7 – SHOWCASE SV 0-68 HANDICAP – 2000 metres:  T

Rounding the home turn Darwin was held up for clear running.

Race 8 – TOBIN BROTHERS WERRIBEE 0-62 HANDICAP – 1400 metres:  Forbidden Rule was slow to begin (two lengths).

Hludowig raced wide without cover from the 600m.

Mildura Racing Club

Date: Monday, 16 April

Race 2 – BETFAIR SV 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1200 metres:

Bel Gold raced wide for the majority of the event.

Moonee Valley Racing Club

Date: Saturday 31 March, 2012

Race 4 – CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING HANDICAP – 1200 metres:

Bolisimo Miss jumped away awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with Her Diamond Rock which was also a little awkward away.

A short distance after the start Incredulous shifted in before being straightened however this caused crowding to Bolisimo Miss which bumped Her Diamond Rock which in turn made contact with the hindquarters of Emerald Downs. As a result of this incident Her Diamond Rock got very unbalanced for some distance and subsequently lost ground.

Bolisimo Miss raced wide without cover.

After passing the 300 metres Bolisimo Miss, which was commencing to give ground, had to be eased to avoid the heels of Fortune Of War when racing in restricted room to the inside of Incredulous. At the same time Incredulous had to be steadied to avoid the heels of City Of Song. In assessing this incident the stewards were of the view that Fortune Of War and City Of Song both shifted ground at this point and in all of the circumstances took no action.

Race 6 – MEADOWNICK LASER EYE SURGERY SPRINT – 1000 metres:

Vain Attraction was slow away.

Date: Friday 30 March, 2012

ace 1 – BAYER IMAX GOLD PLATE – 1018 metres:

After being placed in the barrier stall Kartic Boy became fractious and became cast. All horses were removed from the barriers. Passion Dancer and Controlled, which were in the adjoining barriers, underwent veterinary examinations as well as Kartic Boy. The veterinary surgeon reported that Passion Dancer was fit to race however Kartic Boy and Controlled were deemed unfit to take their place in the field and acting on this stewards ordered the withdrawal of Kartic Boy and Controlled at 1.04pm.  Trainer P Carey was notified that Kartic Boy must trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again. As a consequence the start of the race was delayed.

COLAC GOLD CUP

Date: SUNDAY, 26 FEBRUARY, 2012

Race 5 – ARUNDELL MURRAY & RYAN COUNTRY SHOWCASE 0-72 HANDICAP – 1200 metres:

Approaching the 100 metres CHAMPAGNE ESPRIT was disappointed for a run between ST JAMES LANE (NZ) and MIMICS which shifted in slightly.

Race 7 – COLAC HERALD 0-68 HANDICAP – 1000 metres:

Near the 100 metres BEL SHANDY which was weakening had to be eased to avoid the heels of MR CHUCKLE (Dean Holland) which shifted in.  D. Holland was reprimanded and notified to exercise more care.

KILMORE RACING CLUB

Date: Sunday, 26 February, 2012

Race 8 – NORTH CENTRAL REVIEW 0-78 HANDICAP – 1100 metres:

La Bella Roo which raced wide throughout and was eased over the concluding stages was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no abnormalities.

Melbourne Racing Club @ Caulfield – Blue Diamond Stakes Day

Date: Saturday February 25 2012

Race 2 – THE CHAMPAGNE POMMERY PLATE – 1200 metres:  Hot Spin was slow into stride.

G Boss (Sacred City) stated that his mount raced very greenly and needed more time to mature.  A subsequent veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Race 6 – SPORTINGBET OAKLEIGH PLATE (Group 1) – 1100 metres

Bel Sprinter was held up rounding the home turn and until after passing the 100m.
