LIGHTNING WIN NOT BLACK CAVIAR’S BEST – TIMEFORM

Sunday, 17 February 2013: Timeform says Black Caviar did not run to her peak despite smashing the track record in her effortless comeback win in the Lightning Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.

TImeform’s Australian analyst Gary Crispe said that careful analysis made it clear Black Caviar had not run to her peak Timeform  rating of 136 achieved when she won the same race 12 months ago.

However she went close, running to 133+ which included a length allowance above the raw form for the manner of the victory and amount in hand on the line.

“A 133+ value is just above the five year Timeform average winning rating for the Lightning and above the 131 rating she ran to winning the sprint for the first time in 2011,” Crispe said.

Black Caviar third on World Thoroughbred Rankings

AUSTRALIA has made its biggest mark ever on World Thoroughbred Rankings with immediate connections to four of the top 12 highest-rated racehorses of last year.

To the surprise of no one, the all-conquering Frankel was the stand-out performer and was rated on a mark of 140 — and a furlong or so ahead of the rest.

Australia has the unprecedented representation of Black Caviar, ranked equal third on 130, and Hay List, equal 10th on 125.

At 130, Black Caviar is the official world’s top sprinter on grass as well as taking the crown as the highest rated female of all five distance categories — and by some way ahead of the German mare Danedream and Irish-bred Snow Fairy, equal 13th on a rating of 124. Read the rest of this entry »

Black Caviar tops Australian ratings in 2012

15 JAN 2013 | RACING VICTORIA LTD World Racing’s undefeated champion Frankel dominated the headlines following the release of the 2012 World Thoroughbred Rankings (WTR) by the International Federation of Horse Authorities in London on Tuesday.

Frankel, who has been retired to stud and will not race again, topped the listings at 140, the highest rating assigned to a race horse since Dancing Brave was given a mark of 141 in 1986.

Unbeaten Australian champion Black Caviar was assigned a rating of 130 by the WTR Committee and for the third straight year is the Champion Sprinter in the World.  Read the rest of this entry »

Frankel top of the tree as Brave is downgraded

 BY JAMES BURN11:01AM 15 JAN 2013

FRANKEL has been confirmed as the best horse since official classifications began in 1977 after Dancing Brave’s previous high of 141 was downgraded 3lb by World Thoroughbred Rankings handicappers on Tuesday.

That leaves Frankel at the top of the pile on 140 after Alleged and Shergar were dropped from that mark to 134 and 136. Read the rest of this entry »

Frankel may end up as the best of all time   1 comment

Frankel may end up as the best of all time as the world’s handicappers rewrite history

Perhaps it was the burning desire of a group of learned racing men to acknowledge publicly the stature of what most of them believed to be the best racehorse they had assessed or even seen.

The mighty Frankel left that sort of impression on most judges in his 14 wins from 14 starts on British racecourses.

Or maybe it was reaction to a flippant remark from a former senior handicapper that some three decades ago one great British champion achieved what is now perceived as an inflated rating as a “reward” from a retiring official. Read the rest of this entry »

Handicapper calls for rankings overhaul

Yesterday at 2:41pm by AAP

By Neda Vanovac

SYDNEY, Nov 13 AAP – Although her international standing has nosedived in the latest World Thoroughbred Rankings (WTR), the system is flawed and Black Caviar will be back near the top by year’s end, an expert involved in compiling the ratings says.

Racing Victoria’s chief handicapper and Australian representative to the 15-nation WTR group, Greg Carpenter, says the current system places Australia’s unbeaten champion as 18th on the list due to her performance in the last six months, which does not represent her overall body of work.
