Frankel untouchable in Queen Anne demolition   Leave a comment

Frankel untouchable in Queen Anne demolition

 BY DAVID BAXTER2:41PM 19 JUN 2012

Report: Royal Ascot, Tuesday

Queen Anne Stakes (Group 1) 1m, 4yo+

HE CAME, he saw, he conquered. Again. Frankel was at his irrepressible best as Sir Henry Cecil’s superstar made a mockery of another Group 1 field to extend his unbeaten sequence to 11.

Tom Queally never had a moment’s concern on the four-year-old, who delivered a performance befitting his odds of 1-10, crushing his rivals by 11 lengths and barely breaking a sweat.

POS. Horse / Jockey Review

1st

Fire Thunderbolt – Craig Williams “He (Stokes) said he might have got to the front a bit soon and he did that again today. He has plenty of ability.”

2nd

Mandla – Craig Newitt “He is a nice horse. He didn’t do much right, did a lot wrong, and the winner was a lot more professional which was probably the difference.”

3rd

Imprimis – Dwayne Dunn “He went all right, maybe the soft ground didn’t help him.”

4th

Rhandara – Mark Zahra “She ran her race in patches and hit the line well. It was encouraging.”

5th

Razeena – Damien Oliver “It was an OK run.”

6th

Lady Of Harrods – Jamie Mott “She travelled good but I thought she was disappointing really. As soon as I went for her she found nothing.”

No longer undefeated, but BEL SPRINTER has stamped himself as a genuine top line sprinter after a huge run (2nd) in the G3 Bobby Lewis Quality at Flemington on Saturday. He’s an exciting horse.

What a great preparation he had. BEL SPRINTER will now have a well deserved spell and be back racing early next year.

BEL SPRINTER’S G1 PERFORMANCE

Bel Sprinter certainly lost no fans with his second in the Bobbie Lewis Quality-G3 over 1200m at Flemington yesterday. Indeed he probably gained plenty with the sheer grit of his performance.
The winner of his previous four outings – including a resounding victory in the Regal Roller Stakes-LR a fortnight ago – Bel Sprinter did all the work in front before Lone Rock swooped late and caught him in the shadows of the post.
A more seasoned performer, yet carrying less weight, Lone Rock won the Group One Goodwood in May and – in the Bobbie Lewis – got the drop on 3-time SW Danzylum ($699k), Golden Slipper winner Phelan Ready, G1 winner Toorak Toff, dual SW Temple of Boom, 3-time SW Dubleanny, Flemington Group winner Elusive Touch, dual SW and G1 placed Chasm, Group winner Lord Pyrus, 3-time SW Doubtful Jack ($570k), last season’s dual G1 winner Yosei, G1 winner Aloha, GW and G1 runnerup Gold Salute and G1 winner Eagle Falls.
Arguably the strongest Group Three sprint you’ll see anywhere and surely a contender for an upgrade next season?
Indeed, Robert Smerdon’s stable foreman, Henry Dwyer, was quoted on TVN as saying the Bobbie Lewis was ‘stronger’ than the Goodwood.
“It’s every bit of a Newmarket or Salinger,” Dwyer pointed out.
It will be interesting to see where trainer Jason Warren places the Bel Esprit sprinter next … a ‘recognised’ Group One certainly isn’t out of the question!
