It was a tale of two cities for  beleaguered trainer Peter Moody on Saturday.

The Caulfield-based handler found himself making headlines in the Melbourne media’s Saturday news rather than the sports sections after stewards on Friday finally charged him with administering an illegal substance in the long-running cobalt probe. And he sent nine runners to Flemington for its winter finals day but enjoyed little success. El Greco, who ran second as favourite in the opening event, was the closest he came to a winner in his home state.

But it was a different story in Sydney, where Moody sent two horses – Kenjorwood and Noela’s Choice – who both obliged at Rosehill under apprentice Regan Bayliss, giving him a double with his only two rides in NSW.

However, Moody did not escape the stewards’ attention in the harbour city. They were concerned about Kenjorwood’s action after the horse wobbled to victory in the opener. “He does throw that near fore [leg] way out there on a couple of occasions, particularly at the top of the straight,” chief steward Ray Murrihy said when watching vision of Kenjorwood scramble around the turn before clearing away to win comfortably.

Asked for his assessment, Racing NSW’s senior veterinarian Craig Suann said: “Certainly around the turn it’s concerning.”

But stewards deemed  that Kenjorwood would receive the “benefit of the doubt” on this occasion as Murrihy elected to follow up with Racing Victoria  counterpart Terry Bailey on the five-year-old’s action going in the Melbourne direction.
