Jockeys Blake Shinn and Hugh Bowman knock back Ramornie Handicap rides in favour of Canterbury

Shinn, currently second in the premiership with 85.5 wins behind James McDonald (88.5 wins) has a full book of seven rides at Canterbury including highly rated runners Helford River, Wudang Mountain, Sensualism and Ashkannd.

CHAMPION jockeys Blake Shinn and Hugh Bowman have knocked back rides at Grafton’s rich Ramornie Handicap meeting to pursue their Sydney premiership ambitions at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Bowman has six very rides tomorrow including Echo Queen, Japonisme, Burnt Bridges and I Am Zelady as the jockey attempts to adds to his 84 city wins so far this season.

With six meetings of the 2014-15 Sydney season remaining, Shinn and Bowman are locked in an enthralling battle for premiership battle with McDonald, who is due to return from Europe next week.

Meanwhile, the weights for the Listed $150,000 Ramornie Handicap (1200m) needed to be raised 1.5kg after original 59kg topweight Big Money was not paid up as a final acceptor.

This means former Sydney galloper Malavio will carry the number one saddlecloth with 58kg for the Ramornie.

The Ramornie has a capacity field of 16 plus two emergencies including talented stakes-winning mares I’ve Got The Looks, Thump and Bound For Earth, Godolphin’s proven sprinter Barbed, last start Winter Dash winner Timeless Prince and consistent Turbulent Jet.

Former English stayer Bonfire has topweight of 59kg for Thursday’s Listed $150,000 Grafton Cup (2350m) — a handicap carried successfully by only Oppressor 20 years ago since Carnival shouldered 60.5kg to win in 1966.

Bonfire has drawn wide in barrier 14 against a quality field including his last start Winter Cup conqueror Kapour, Ipswich Cup winner Danchai, and recent Sydney winners Reigning, Maurus and Archean.
