JET-setters Craig Williams and Damien Oliver wasted no time reacquainting themselves with Melbourne racing on Saturday, continuing the three-way dogfight for the metropolitan jockeys’ premiership.

After a hit-and-run raid on Royal Ascot last Saturday Williams rode two early winners for John Sadler and then the winner of the last to grab the lead by one.

His treble-winning ride on the Luke Oliver-trained Jessy Belle ($7.10) took him to 50 winners for the season with four weeks to go, one ahead of Dwayne Dunn and two in front of Oliver.

Oliver booted home the Chris Waller-trained Amovatio ($7.20) in the 1400m heat of the Flemington Winter Championships, but said it had been an exhausting week having flown back from England midweek.

“It’s a lot of travel, I wouldn’t like to do it too often, but it was a great experience,” Oliver said.

“It’s unusual to see us top jockeys here at this time of year fighting it out, most of us normally have a break, but it is great for winter racing.

“It’s going to be tough. Obviously Craig and Dwayne are great jockeys and they can ride 54kg, which is pretty hard for me to do this time of the year.”

Dunn did not ride a winner after landing a treble last week.
