The Royal Ascot conqueror of Australian sprinter Brazen Beau has emerged on the wishlist for organisers of the Melbourne spring carnival.

Undrafted defeated Brazen Beau in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes and a rematch was scheduled for the July Cup at Newmarket on July 11. Undrafted will now be aimed at The Sprint Cup at Haydock, in England, on September 5.

Racing Victoria recruiter Leigh Jordon said the timing of the race opened the possibility of Undrafted coming to Australia.

He said he would contact Undrafted’s US trainer Wesley Ward to pass on details of the VRC Sprint Classic at Flemington on the final day of the Melbourne Cup carnival.

“I was going to catch up with Wesley at the July Cup and having spoken to him in the past he has said he would love to have a runner down at the Melbourne Cup carnival,” Jordon told radio station RSN.

If Undrafted makes his way to Flemington he will be running for a $600,000 bonus as part of the Global Sprint Series after winning the Diamond Jubilee.

Jordon heads to Europe next week to spread the word about the Melbourne spring carnival among British trainers and he will attend the July Cup meeting.

Ward believes Undrafted needs more time between races and the Haydock Sprint is a more suitable target than the Cup on July 11.

“The July Cup is out,” Ward said. “I just thought Ascot was such a high and he put in a real gut-wrenching effort that I wanted to get him home and give him some time.

“The race we are really looking at now is the Sprint Cup.

“Haydock is a flat track and that will suit him.”

Brazen Beau is the dominant favourite for the July Cup ahead of Mustajeeb who ran fifth in the Diamond Jubilee.
