CHAMPION jockey Ryan Moore has broken one of Royal Ascot’s oldest records with a ninth winner in four days.

The Melbourne Cup and Cox Plate-winning rider had to wait to the final race of the program on the fourth day to lift Aloft to victory in the Queen’s Vase.

Moore, 31, rode three winners on Tuesday, a double on Wednesday, a treble Thursday and Aloft today to have nine scalps from 23 mounts.

No jockey has ridden more than eight winners in post-World War II Royal meetings.

Pat Eddery managed eight in 1989 while Lester Piggott matched that figure twice in 1965 and 1975.

Moore has another strong book of rides tonight to cling to hope of matching Royal Ascot’s all-time record of 12.

Fred Archer set the mark in 1878.

A workaholic, Moore left Ascot as soon as the post-race presentations had been made and drove to Goodwood to take more rides.

As usual, Moore deflected the credit for his success.

“Very lucky to get to ride the best horses and that makes a difference,” he said.

Sydney sprinter Brazen Beau is pre-post favourite for tonight’s Diamond Jubilee Stakes (1200m) while Gai Waterhouse’s Wandjina is also given a strong chance.

Moore, who rides Due Diligence, said: “Brazen Beau is a big horse from Australia, he has won two Group 1 races there and if he brings his A game he will probably win.”
