CHRIS Waller has vowed to drape himself in the Australian flag if Brazen Beau wins at Royal Ascot in England next week.

New Zealand-born Waller on Sunday revealed how proud he would be if Brazen Beau could win at one of the world’s biggest racing carnivals and he already has part of his post-race celebrations down pat.

“Obviously being a New Zealander I’m representing myself as well but from a horse perspective, we are representing Australia and I’m very proud of it,” he said. “I will take the Australian flag with me and throw it over my shoulders if he wins. ”

Waller is yet to lock in which race Brazen Beau will contest at Royal Ascot — the King’s Stand Stakes (1000m) Tuesday week or the Diamond Jubilee Stakes (1200m) on Saturday week.

But Waller feels the Diamond Jubilee could suit Brazen Beau better.

“It depends a lot on the weather and I’m not fussed what race he runs in,” Waller said.

“But the Diamond Jubilee will allow him the chance to show his class over 1200m where the 1000m race is just a flat out sprint.”

Waller stopped short of saying it would be the finest moment of his career if Brazen Beau could win at Royal Ascot but he said it would be a special moment.

“It will be a great achievement yes but in terms of a training performance it’s pretty much out of our hands and you are just relying on mother nature to help us get through the trip,” he said.

Waller was left devastated last year after the first horse he took to England, Zoustar was ruled out of the Royal Ascot carnival after suffering a ligament strain in the lead up to the carnival.

Waller is keeping his fingers crossed everything turns out differently with Brazen Beau this year.

“The work is done this year and last year we were on the back foot before we started and we went over earlier and it just didn’t work out,” he said.

“I’m sure he is good enough to win the race and we just have to make sure he is in his best form on the day.”

Brazen Beau will join Shamal Wind (King’s Stand Stakes), Wandjina (Diamond Jubilee) and Criterion (Prince of Wales’s Stakes) as Australian-trained horses to race at Royal Ascot next week.
