Glenn Smith could easily fit the mould of one of Black Heart Bart’s owners – rather than the man they’re relying on in the $2 million Stradbroke Handicap.

Nudging 80kg and driving cranes as a wharfie in Bunbury in Western Australia, he was just like Black Heart Bart’s managing owner, Kim Renner.

The builder in Geraldton was smitten with a horse that walked into the ring as one of the “leftovers basically” at a sale he was watching on the internet. A couple of days later, he was Renner’s own for $20,000.
