PETER Moody will pit promising two-year-old El Greco against Mick Price’s gun colt Prince Of Brooklyn and a potential dozen other quality juveniles in Friday’s $100,000 Elvstroem Classic at Swan Hill.

Price decided to run Prince Of Brooklyn in the 1300m Classic because of the prizemoney ($60,000 for first, plus $30,000 in VOBIS bonuses) rather than head to Brisbane to tackle a Group 1.

His hopes that the presence of the winner of the Group 3 National Stakes on debut in Adelaide would scare off rivals has not worked — yet.

Swan Hill received 23 nominations for a race that can handle only 14 starters, with four emergencies.

Moody has nominated El Greco, the David Moodie-owned gelding who won a Kilmore 1200m maiden on debut by two lengths.

El Greco was scratched from Moonee Valley on Saturday to race in the Classic.

Moody also has nominated Look At Me Now, Trinity River and Zenon, while Price’s Gungastruck and No Pain No Gain are among the entries.

Others include dashing Warrnambool winner Dangerous Breeding from the Robert Smerdon yard and the David Hayes debutant Del Grappa, a gelding by Beneteau.

The other feature of the opening day of the three-day carnival is the 1200m Golden Topaz, which has attracted a staggering 48 nominations.

Darren Weir’s May’s Dream and Streets Away, Price’s Le Bonsir and Troy Corstens’ Tried And Tired head the ratings in the $100,000 feature.
