Trainer Robert Smerdon says his bid to win a third Goodwood Handicap on Saturday is still very much alive despite his main hope, Under The Louvre, needing a riding change just days before the group 1 sprint.

Jockey Nick Hall, who opted out of riding at Warrnambool last week, told Smerdon on Sunday that he was still not happy with his injured wrist and needed to give it time to heal.

The Caulfield trainer has now called on Mark Zahra to take the mount on $10 chance Under The Louvre.

“It was just a matter of Nick not being confident that his wrist was 100 per cent and eventually his manager confirmed to me that they were going to give the injury more time to repair,” Smerdon said.
