Moe trainer Peter Gelagotis is under investigation for the suspected raceday treatment of Axis Point.

Stewards ordered the scratching of the mare from race nine at Warrnambool on Tuesday on the advice of Racing Victoria’s Compliance Assurance Team.

RV chairman of stewards Terry Bailey confirmed the situation.

“We visited there at 9am this morning (and then) came back at 1pm and the concern is the horse has received treatment today,” Bailey told

“A syringe with amino acids has been confiscated.

“The explanation tendered by Mr Gelagotis, in our view, was not satisfactory, and based on the evidence that the compliance team had collected there was a prima facie case to suggest the horse has been treated and we weren’t prepared to allow the horse to run under those circumstances.”

Samples have been taken from the horse and the investigation is expected to continue for about a week.

This is the third case of raceday treatment that Racing Victoria stewards are currently dealing with.

Trainers Brendan McCarthy (Zedi Knight at Caulfield on April 4) and Ricky Maund (Uncle Keithy at Caulfield on April 18) had horses withdrawn in similar circumstances.

McCarthy was charged last week while the investigation into Maund is expected to be completed this week.
