Eric Musgrove admits he once feared the worst for his beloved sport of jumps racing, but thanks to champion Sydney trainer Chris Waller now has a rising star in Tuesday’s Brierly Steeplechase winner Thubiaan.

Musgrove, 63, a Warrnambool carnival regular for more than 30 years, credited his  $100,000 Brierly Steeplechase (3450m) win with Thubiaan ($2.40 favourite) to a  a phone call from Waller last November.
