PUNTERS today are waking up to race and sports betting 21st century-style, with racing vision placed literally in their hands, as TattsBet was replaced by UBET at a launch in Sydney in Tuesday night.

UBET is the Tatts Group’s pitch to win back customers who have migrated to corporate bookmakers recently.

The first retail outlet, in New Farm, was unveiled earlier this month and from Thursday, a key feature of UBET is its lightning-fast tablet and mobile phone app, which will allow account holders to watch live video of Queensland races from wherever they are.

“We are now positioned to start acting as the market leader and we are perfectly placed to fight back against the corporate bookmakers,” Tatts Group’s chief executive Robbie Cooke said.

“In developing a brand that aligns our business nationally, as well across both digital and retail channels, we’re ensuring we have one, clear message for customers, where previously, it’s fair to say, we’ve been confusing them.

“The investment in new technology is positioning UBET as a serious player in what has become one of the most competitive consumer sectors in the Australian marketplace. The mobile and iPad apps are a best in class offering.

“We expect to boost sales through our digital channels, but also see our next generation retail concept providing a powerful advantage over our corporate competitors.”

Tatts Group had been criticised for the delay in launching the new brand but Cooke has maintained it was always about ensuring the product was exactly right before offering it to punters.

The new brand triggers an aggressive national marketing campaign promoting both the new digital channels and the improved experience for gambling’s retail customers.

To add weight to its new approach, UBET announced last night its “League of Legends’’, featuring some of Australia’s biggest sporting names.

Former Wallabies captain Nathan Sharpe, Brisbane Lions legend Jonathan Brown, dual NRL premiership winner, NSW Blue and Kangaroo Anthony Minichiello and four-time Bathurst champion Greg Murphy were unveiled as ambassadors for UBET, along with former ESPN host and US sports expert, Jason Bennett.

All five will provide expert insights and commentary for UBET punters across a multitude of channels.

“This rebrand has been a whole of business evolution. This has been a huge undertaking, ensuring everyone understood the need for change and then working together to make it happen,” UBET’s chief operating officer Barrie Fletton said.

“Personally, I’m very proud to see the dramatic change that has taken place both internally and externally. This is without question, the most exciting time in our business’ history.”
