A COUPLE of outstanding barrier trials has Warwick Farm trainer Jarrod Austin brimming with confidence before Fashion Model’s return to racing in Saturday’s ITC Illawarra.com.au Handicap (1000m) at Kembla.

The daughter of I Am Invincible has changed stables since her only outing on December 13 when she finished well down the order behind Odyssey Moon in the Inglis Nursery at Randwick.

Fashion Model turned heads in her March 27 heat at Warwick Farm, finishing fourth to Xanthippe and Volate.

Kerrin McEvoy was aboard Austin’s filly for her April 10 trial where she clocked in eighth but was the eye-catcher among those that went around.

“She drew the outside barrier in her second heat so we elected to take her back and she hit the line full of running, that’s for sure,’’ Austin said.

“I’ve been really happy with how she has trialled and how she has worked since. From a good barrier (on Saturday), I expect her to run a really good race even though it is a very strong two-year-old (race) for a Kembla Grange meeting.”

Fashion Model will be joined on the float by three of her Bull Street stablemates for the short trip to Kembla, including three-year-old gelding Saint Jerome, who is having his first start in the ITC Shellharbour Club Maiden Handicap (1400m). Saint Jerome is a half-brother to Joe Pride’s Doncaster/Myer Classic winner Sacred Choice and surely one of the few remaining racehorses out of a Sir Tristram mare.

“Saint Jerome a nice horse and I expect him to make the grade eventually,” Austin said. “He’s having his first start and I’m sure he’ll be better for the experience, but we’ve got high hopes for him.”
