More than a year ago, prominent breeder and racehorse owner David Moodie and a group of Australian racing enthusiasts were confident they had reversed the trends of Australians paying huge prices for European racehorses.

In 2012 Moodie, along with bloodstock agent Justin Bahen, purchased a yearling for €80,000 at a sale in Deauville in France. They were both aware that the colt had genuine athletic looks and a pedigree to match.

The sire, of course, had Australian connections as it was the former outstanding sprinter Starspangledbanner. And they were aware that the young stallion had struggled to get mares in foal in his first years at stud.
