A battle to get down to 56 kilograms paid off for heavyweight ride Steven Arnold, with West Australian gelding Watermans Bay returning to form with a strong win in the group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400 metres) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Arnold was feeling the effects of getting down to the weight after his first ride earlier in the day but was all smiles after the win.

The victory saw Arnold again combine with Watermans Bay’s trainer Danny Morton with whom he won the 2009 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot as well as the Newmarket Handicap and Lightning Stakes on Scenic Blast.

“I pulled up a bit dusty after the first one but I’m bouncing now,” Arnold said.
