ROYAL Randwick and Easter usually equals wet weather but one trainer not concerned about the likelihood of more rain this week is James Cummings.

He’s preparing the outstanding Hallowed Crown for the $3 million Doncaster Mile (1600m) on Saturday and maintains the possibility of a rain-affected track won’t impact his colt’s chances.

“I welcome the rain,’’ Cummings said at The Championships trophies launch on Monday.

“Hallowed Crown is proven in heavy going, he handles any type of track surface.

“We don’t need a wet track for the Doncaster but it wouldn’t hurt our colt and it might take the polish of some of the others.’’

Hallowed Crown is currently co-favourite at $6 for the Doncaster alongside Japan’s Real Impact and Kermadec.

Cummings said Hallowed Crown has thrived since his third in the Rosehill Guineas behind Volkstok‘n’barrell.

“I can’t stress how well this colt is at the moment,’’Cummings added. “We are going to give him a solid hitout (this morning).

“I will find a partner to gallop with him because this colt needs a companion to stay focused.’’

Australian Turf Club’s track manager Lindsay Murphy confirmed nearly 20mls of rain fell at Randwick on Monday with the track rated a soft 5.

“The track isn’t too bad at the moment and although the forecast for the rest of this week isn’t the best, we are keeping our fingers crossed,’’Murphy said.

In other Doncaster news, Laser Hawk, who is raced in the same interests as Hallowed Crown, will not line up in the Doncaster, increasing the chances of borderline entries Kermadec and Sweynesse squeezing into the field.

Kermadec has continued to firm in betting despite doubts he will make the final 20-horse field.

The Australian Turf Club board of directors do have the discretionary powers to include any in-form horses outside the top 20 in ballot order it feels deserving of a Doncaster start but has rarely exercised this controversial option.

Singapore-based Corey Brown returns to Sydney racing to ride Suavito while Gai Waterhouse has given former French jockey Thomas Huet his biggest career opportunity with his booking for Diamond Drille.

Trainer David Vandyke remains confident Arabian Gold can overcome a hoof problem and take her place in the Doncaster Mile field.

Vandyke informed stewards on Monday that Arabian Gold was showing signs of lameness in her off foreleg and was subsequently found to have a corn in her foot.

The trainer reported that Arabian Gold had her shoe removed and a poultice applied but she had not missed any track gallops.

Racing NSW chief veterinarian Dr Craig Suann will inspect Arabian Gold if she is paid up as a final acceptor for the Doncaster on Tuesday.
