Doncaster Prelude winner Excess Knowledge won’t be at Randwick for the big mile next week but Pornichet will be part of Gai Waterhouse’s team after storming home in the Neville Sellwood Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.

“This horse is going to the Doncaster. He’s very exciting,” Waterhouse said after he showed a turn of foot to leave his rivals floundering.

Waterhouse had knocked back similar queries about Excess Knowledge, expressing her views about the compressed weights. However Pornichet is a different horse and his strong form at the end of 2000 metres would be perfect lead-up to the Doncaster.

“It’s a winning formula,” Waterhouse said. “I love the way that Blake [Shinn] had him third on the fence, then just before the turn he slid out and then he just exploded. He was the winner from the top of the straight. That was the exciting thing.”
