Jockey Jack Hill was airlifted to a Melbourne hospital on Friday afternoon after a heavy fall at a meeting at Donald.

Hill crashed heavily at the top of the straight from his mount The Muckle Toon, who then, after falling, appeared to roll over the young jockey.

Paramedics worked frantically on Hill and a decision was then made to airlift the rider to Melbourne after he did not regain consciousness.

Medical advice on his arrival in Melbourne was that Hill was breathing but had still not regained consciousness.

So concerned were his fellow jockeys that they made a request to stipendiary stewards to halt the meeting following Hill’s fall in race four.

Stewards agreed with the request and the final four races were abandoned.
