TRAINER Peter Snowden will instruct his riders to be positive on Diamond Valores and Blademeister and make use of their staying ability in the Group 2 $175,000 Tulloch Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

Diamond Valores and Blademeister are on trial for a possible start in the ATC Australian Derby at Randwick next Saturday.

But Snowden says both must run extremely well to back up in the Group 1.

Bookies rate Diamond Valores a $7 chance while Blademeister is at $51 but Snowden maintains there is not that much between the young stayers.

However, Diamond Valores’s chances were dealt a blow when he drew barrier 14.

“Diamond Valores has drawn a shocker,’’ Snowden said. “But we will go forward and try to slot in somewhere. It would be pointless going back.

“He has a storming finish and to do that he needs to go forward and be ‘half-handy’.

“As for Blademeister, his last start was better than you think because he missed the start. We will be riding him at least midfield to give him his chance because he can ‘stick’ on well.’’

Snowden, who co-trains with his son Paul, has a good representation at Rosehill, including promising juveniles Wolf Cry and Delawar, who clash in the Group 3 $150,000 The Schweppervesence (1400m).

Wolf Cry has outstanding formlines with thirds in his only three starts behind super colt Vancouver (Breeders Plate), Haptic (Lonhro Plate) and Exosphere (Skyline Stakes).

Delawar made his debut at a Kembla Grange midweek meeting and was very impressive scoring over 1200m.

“Wolf Cry’s three runs suggest he wants 1400m,’’ Snowden said. “Off a good draw (barrier one) he should be able to make his own luck and run very well.

“There was no fluke about the way Delawar won his first start. He’s a very well-bred horse and the further he goes, the better he will be.’’

The Snowden stable has good mares Gypsy Diamond and Mahara contesting the Group 2 $175,000 Emancipation Stakes (1500m). Although the trainer is happy with both mares, he conceded they face a difficult task to beat hot favourite Catkins.

“Gypsy Diamond and Mahara are going very well but Catkins is so well-weighted in this race,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, Snowden’s Blue Diamond winner Pride Of Dubai had a solid hit-out in a Warwick Farm barrier trial on Friday in preparation for the $1 million ATC Sires Produce Stakes at Royal Randwick next Saturday.

“Pride Of Dubai ran second in his trial, he went very well,’’ Snowden said. “He was out there to do his job and he had a good blow after the trial so it is all systems go for the Sires next week.’
