Golden Slipper day preview

Our Rails Run panel preview Saturday’s Golden Slipper day at Rosehill.

Even without the BMW, Golden Slipper day – featuring Vancouver taking on two major challenges – promises to be one of the best of the season.

“Promises” because what looks attractive on paper can fizzle on the heat of course-proper action, as did last Saturday’s Newmarket-Australian Cup program at Flemington.

For purists the weight-for-age BMW often overshadowed the Golden Slipper, but with the exceptions of the first and last events it is a very strong program indeed, despite being afflicted by the Sydney small-field malaise.

Not so with Saturday’s Golden Slipper, in which many green youngsters will charge around 1200 metres for $3.5million.
