Michael Hawkes has described luckless filly Lake Geneva as the equal of last year’s winner Mossfun before inviting critics to write off deposed favourite Headwater at their peril in an “open” Golden Slipper on Saturday.

Despite Vancouver maintaining a stranglehold on Golden Slipper favouritism on Wednesday in spite of his bad draw, Hawkes Racing remains quietly confident about its chances of rewriting history in the world’s richest two-year-old 12 months after Mossfun’s success.
