Fantastic Frankel all set to make history at York

Fantastic Frankel all set to make history at YorkFrankel heads to York next week in a quest to stretch his stunning unbeaten run to 13 and to ensure his legacy as the best racehorse of a generation.

Sir Henry Cecil’s superstar has continued to wow racegoers this year with superlative performances in the JLT Lockinge at Newbury, Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot and QIPCO Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. Now, however, he will face arguably the toughest challenge of his career as he steps up to tackle a mile and a quarter for the first time against a classy field of experienced middle distance performers in the Juddmonte International.

Not only could he face opposition from his stablemate and last year’s winner of the race, Twice Over, but Coral-Eclipse hero Nathaniel is also entered in York’s richest ever race, along with Coronation Cup winner St Nicholas Abbey. The last-named runner will be bidding at the Knavesmire to enhance his great record of five wins from six starts when racing left-handed.

In aid of the penultimate opportunity to see him on the track, Frankel has become the first racehorse to have his own TV commercial. The 20-second TV advert will run in peak slots on ITV Yorkshire over the weekend of 18th and 19th August to promote the significance of Frankel’s race at York and to encourage viewers to visit the track in order to see him in action before it’s too late.

If you want to see history in the making and witness what is likely to be the second last ever appearance on the track of one of the greatest racehorses in history, make sure that you secure your tickets to York today by CLICKING HERE

Tried and tested tactics for Frankel at York

FRANKEL will not be ridden to get the trip when he steps up to 1m2f for the first time in Wednesday’s Juddmonte International.

That was the message delivered on Sunday by owner Khalid Abdullah’s racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe, who confirmed that tried and tested tactics will be employed by jockey Tom Queally when the sport’s world champion seeks to stretch his unbeaten record to 13 races on the Knavesmire.

Frankel, yet to be in any way stretched in his three races this season, could be appearing for the penultimate time at York, where he will be joined in a three-pronged Abdullah challenge by Sir Henry Cecil’s 2011 International winner Twice Over and pacemaker Bullet Train.

Grimthorpe, speaking in a Qipco British Champions Series promotional video, said: “He’s got this tremendous cruising speed and if you stifle that you’re stifling the best part of him really. His stride takes him into the race, so there’s no point in anchoring him or blasting him off.”

Farhh, runner-up to Frankel at Goodwood having previously filled the same place in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes and Coral-Eclipse, could have another crack at his Sussex conqueror.

Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford said: “I didn’t think he ran as well as he did at Ascot and Sandown and I put that down to the trip more than anything. I think we’ve established a mile and a quarter is a good trip for him.

“Maybe the horse wasn’t in as good form as he was when he ran in the Eclipse. It might have taken a little bit more out of him than we thought.”
