Art of the noble Thoroughbred………..
THE 2012 INGLIS EQUINE ART PRIZE THEME IS ‘AT THE TRACK’.
Judges:-
- Artist Ms Nafisa Naomi – winner Gold Medal 2007 Florence Biennale
- Equine artist Mr Alister Simpson
- Inglis Deputy Chairman Mr Arthur Inglis
Joseph Zbukvic is the 2012 Inglis Equine Art Prize winner receiving $15,000.
Judges comments:-
In this masterful use of watercolour , he has succeeded in looking beyond the immediacy of the action and has accessed the other senses so that the viewer can almost feel the dusty track and smell the early morning dew.
In this work, Joseph appeals to the art lover as much as the trainer and the owner. The work is outstanding in its execution and subtle use of tones to create what is often so elusive to the artist…..that of ‘feeling’.”

Tony Pridham is the 2012 Iinglis Equine Art Prize Runner Up.
Judges comments:-
“This is a beautiful portrait of the subject and by eliminating any full human face from the composition, allows the focus to rest squarely on the horse. The expression of the subject is wonderful and the masterful use of primary colours is intoxicating, drawing the eyes of the viewer around the work repeatedly. The text accompanying the work is as a tribute to a great hero and so reinforces the sentiment about this being a portrait and homage to a spirit now gone.
The light upon the subject captures the excitement of the moment as much as the expression on the subject after the win. This work celebrates the individual and the sport of racing. Thus, this is a beautiful legacy to the uniqueness of the beloved champion in its moment of glory.”
