The half-brother to four-time Group One winner Sepoy spaced his rivals in heavy conditions in his second start at Sandown late last month, and he is favourite to win again in Saturday’s Anthony Fitzpatrick & Biagio Lombardo Handicap.
“He comes off a 10 length win at Sandown the other day on a heavy 10. I would assume we’d be racing on a better surface on Saturday so it will be interesting to see how that form carries over,” Moody told Sydney’s Sky Sports Radio.
“He’s a nice horse with a hell of a pedigree.
“He’s one that we’ve nommed up for the three-year-old races and you never know. He’s a very nice horse.”
Mulaazem, by Dubai Destination, is the $2 favourite with TAB Sportsbet ahead of stablemate Emperor Max ($4) and the Patinack Farm-owned filly Fandom ($7).
Vlad Duric rode Mulaazem to his Sandown win but Moody’s stable rider Luke Nolen takes over on Saturday.
The 1410m event has just seven runners but that looks set to be reduced further with last start Sandown winner High Aims likely to be saved for a race next Wednesday.
“I think the Moody horse and the horse of Patinack’s (Fandom) are pretty strong form lines,” High Aims’ co-trainer David Brideoake said.
Mulaazem and Emperor Max, an eight length Warrambool winner on debut, were among the 13 Moody-trained three-year-olds nominated for the Caulfield Guineas earlier this week.
