Nunthorpe Stakes – 24th August, 2012
Roger Charlton’s Bated Breath has run some absolute crackers in defeat in Group One company and the five-year-old will look to finally bag that elusive victory in the top class sphere in what is set to be a thrilling renewal of the Nunthorpe Stakes at York’s Ebor Festival.
Paul Messara’s Australian sprinting sensation Ortensia showed her raw speed when storming to an emphatic victory in the King George Stakes at Glorious Goodwood and if she were to stay on these shores for an additional month then will certainly be a lively contender is she can emulate that Group Two winning performance.
Edward Lynam’s Sole Power was a shock 100/1 winner of this event in 2010, but has showed that was no fluke since and has run some creditable times in top class company and will be another towards the head of the betting that comes into the reckoning.
David Barron’s Pearl Secret has been a revelation this season racking up four wins on the bounce and he could well step up into Group One company and has to warrant respect, whilst another three-year-old in Ceiling Kitty, who was a fine winner of the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot could be another potential youngster vying for victory on August 24.
Mayson showed when winning the July Cup in heavy ground that he has the potential to perform at the highest level, whilst the likes of former Stewards’ Cup winner Hoof It and ex-sprinting sensation Starspangled, who could make a return to the track, add great depth to the event.
