THE focus was as much on Helsinge as her daughter Black Caviar at Flemington today after All Too Hard’s impressive winning debut in the Talinbert Stakes.
All Too Hard continued a phenomenal streak for Helsinge, who is far from a “one-off” in the breeding barn.
Besides the incomparable Black Caviar, Helsinge has also produced the smart Moshe, who showed huge potential a year or so ago before sucumming to injury.
And now All Too Hard, a son of Casino Prince bought for $1,025,000 by billionaire Nathan Tinkler, who stands Casino Prince at one of his stud farms.
The irony of All Too Good’s sweeping win was that he relegated Liberty Rock, trained by Black Caviar’s Peter Moody, into second. All Too Hard, which had been crunched on the fixed odds to start the $2.90 favourite, ambled up to the leaders at the 300m and swept past Liberty Rock ($6) to win by 1 1/2 lengths.
Co-trainer Wayne Hawkes, who also trained Moshe, said the stable was accustomed to keen punter interest on unproven relations to Black Caviar.
“There’s always a bit of pressure,” he said. “I don’t think there’s been that many people in the mounting yard for race one for as long, long time.
“Even at the stalls there were lots of people looking at us saddle him up.”
Hawkes said the stable had an inkling All Too Hard had ability but an eye-catching jumpout win at Flemington on Tuesday had them convinced he might make a winning debut.
“That was to be expected,” he said of the win. “It’s always easy to say that after the race, you’re a bit more cocky and a bit more confident, but you’re just trying to put a lid on these sorts of horses and everyone’s booming them without us adding an extra cog to it.
“He trialled down the straight on Tuesday morning and everyone saw it.
“It’s very important when they jumpout down the straight that they trial well; horses who trial bad run terrible and the horses who trial well down the straight run good.
“It was a nice little race for him and it’s onwards and upwards form here.”
Hawkes quickly ruled out backing up All Too Good in next Saturday’s Blue Diamond Stakes but said a trip to Sydney was on the cards, for races such as the Sires and Champagne (Stakes).
